Dubus'

Meditiations from a Moving Chair

is BEATING my heart

back into shape--

How it got out of shape

could fill ten books, twenty.

I'm going to try to put it into one

and call it The Baseball Wars

and try to walk easy again

in the scented summer air.

I loved that book when it first came out. It did pretty much the same for me.

Hope things aren't beating you too far out of shape over there.

In other news, while moving into this new apartment I spilled a box full of old notebooks on the floor and picked up one dated October 1998 and there it was--an entry about the first time you and I grabbed a beer. "This enthusiastic guy", etc.... and we traded poems. A post-graduation poem about you camping and listening to crickets. Remember?

Cool stuff. I have an entry about you too somewhere. It's funny . . . I wrote a little bit these days about how we were always writing about crickets back then.

Oh, and, re. Dubus.

The bit about sandwiches. That about killed me.
