Sweet William

His whole life held together
by an inclusion
that neatly
bust it open
every time.

Reading Richardson's William James biography, I have never been more impressed with talk of a man.

Reading deeper I know the joy of the nut being finally cracked open.

And then you pour in a little Goldbarth, who is on his way with coffee and considerations of all corners.

It will be a good fall, with much to breath about.

Have you read/heard of "The Metaphysical Club"? About James/Pierce/Dewey/Holmes. It's one of the most engrossing books about the formation of American intellectual culture I've read. Dewey would be someone who would get you going as well, I think.
