as a poet i was getting extremely tired of^^^^^what I considered an unnatural^^^language act^^^^^going into a closet^^^^^so to speak^^^^^sitting in front of a typewriter^^^^^because anything is possible sitting in front of a typewriter and^^^^^^^nothing is necessary^^^^^a closet is no place to address anybody

David Antin's _Talking at the Boundaries_ found in _Poetry and the Performed Word_ (ed. Bernstein). The flecks (^) indicate spaces of course, which is not how I have used them in the past.
That's a tepid, pretty unconvincing line of argument, right there.
Those guys' business is to justify their business.
